On February 20, 2023, representatives of the ecclesial entities of Assisi, local citizens and members of the Assisi city council, met together for the first time to prepare for the 2023-26 Franciscan Centenary event. The meeting was held in the Cimabue Hall of the new Colle del Paradiso Conference Center of the Basilica of St. Francis, which is accessed from the Lower Piazza.

The meeting was attended by about fifty people. They discussed proposals and ideas in view of the Franciscan anniversaries that will be celebrated in the coming years. The meeting began with introductory remarks from Friar Francesco PILONI, OFM (Minister Provincial); Friar Marco MORONI, the Custos of the Sacred Convent; and Stefania PROIETTI, the Mayor of Assisi.

There were numerous speeches by the local citizens present. They shared suggestions and expressed their hope for increasingly better synergy among the various leaders of the city.

In conclusion, the Most Reverend Domenico SORRENTINO, Bishop of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino, Italy, talked about the ecclesial aspect of the Franciscan celebrations: namely, turning our gaze to Christ, of whom Francis is the true image and icon.
